The Golden Keepers (The Golden Keeps Book 1) Page 6

“Get a good night sleep honey. Things will be okay, I promise.” She said as she closed my bedroom door.

It was hard for me to fall asleep. I stared at my ceiling for what felt like hours. I wonder how Dillan was doing in the hospital. Maybe they would let him go tomorrow and he can come back home.

As I thought more about what happened I got more and more angry. I needed to do something. My eyes started to get heavy and I fell asleep.

  ‘Beep Beep’

I turned on my side and hit my alarm clock. I felt like I had slept for ten minutes. I got up and started to put on my clothes. I grabbed a bag and put my gold spandex and mask in it and started to walk out of the house. It felt good to just be out by the ocean and see the sun rise. I started to head to towards the island.

  The Golden Cavern

I started to run, and to be honest. After the night I had, it felt amazing to run. I felt like I was letting go of so many memories I didn’t want to remember. I reached the trees that block me from running further and looked towards the ocean. I started to walk towards the ocean until I tripped over something in the sand. I looked over to see what it was. There was a rock sticking out of the sand that said push on it. I reached my hand out and pushed the button. I looked at the ocean as the water started to swirl downwards like a toilet being flushed. A tunnel started to appear and I started to walk towards it. I stepped into the tunnel and started to look around. It was like walking through an underwater zoo. I could see the fish swimming around me, and sharks looking for food. I wonder if Shane had done all of this last night. The tunnel closed behind me and the water rose up again.

“It’s a hidden tunnel. Nice Shane!” I said to myself.

I started to run towards the island. It was nice to get there without having to get wet. I came to a big gate that had a scanner on the side of it.

“Please scan hand.” The scanner said.

I put my hand up to the scanner. It felt warm as it ran up and down reading my prints.

  “Access granted.” The scanner said.

The gate started to open. I started to walk into the room. In front of me was a staircase that went upwards. I started to climb up them. I could hear falling water the higher I got. This staircase must lead to the waterfall. I started to climb up the stairs faster.

When I reached the top I saw Dean and Shane. They were sitting on a couch that they had put in the cave. I looked around. There was a big computer screen and little computer screens, a T.V., two couches and a kitchen to eat in. It was perfect. I looked over at Shane and Dean who were staring at me.

“So, what do you think Astra?” Shane asked.

“It’s perfect!” I told him with the biggest smile on my face.

Then I looked at the waterfall. It was still really loud.

“Did you figure a way to make it less noisy in here?” I asked.

“Glad you asked Astra.” Shane said while walking over to a button that was on the side of the cave. “All you need to do is push this button and you will have your peace and quit.” He said as he pushed it.

I looked at the waterfall as a wall that looked like thick glass started to come up from under the ground. It covered the entire opening. And we were still able to see the waterfall.

“This is a force field. It not only blocks out sound, but it keeps enemies out. No matter how hard they try to break the shield it won’t budge.”

  “It’s brilliant Shane!” I responded.

“So, what’s in the bag Astra?” Dean asked as he got up from the couch.

I pulled the bag off of my back and placed it on the table next to me. I pulled out my mask and spandex. Dean’s eyes got big. I think it finally hit him what I was planning to do.

“Astra, listen. I know you must be really angry about what the captain did to Dillan, but we can’t fight him.” He said.

“Dean, we are just like him. We have the same powers. I’m going to fight him with or without you. So you just let me know if you are with me.” I said as I raised my voice at him.

Shane walked over and grabbed my mask.

“Navy and Gold. Those are really good colors Astra. What made you decide to pick those?” he asked.

“Um, I don’t know why. I just found it and I really liked it.” I told him.

He went over to a control board that seemed to control the big screen that was on the wall. He pulled up the colors gold and navy blue and started to make uniforms for all of us.

“Navy blue shows trust and responsibility and gold means wealth, success, achievement and triumph. In a way I think these colors allow the humans to see we are trust worth and show the captain and those who follow him that we succeed. We don’t fail. That should be able to scare them away.” Shane said.

My jaw dropped. I had no idea that’s what those colors meant but I was definitely okay with that. Dean patted me on the back and went to go sit down on the couch again.

“So when do you start?” he asked.

Shane and I looked at each other and smiled. I looked over at Dean and opened my mouth.

  “We start now.”

We all sat on the couch and started to watch videos that people of recorded of the captain and his partner. They seemed to be getting stronger. Their moves were incredible. His partner still intimidated me. I still felt like she could see deep within my soul. Who was she? I wonder if she was on our ship with us. She must have been since she had powers like us, I know for a fact she definitely was not a human!

“I don’t know about you guys, but these guys are pretty good.” Dean said as he paused the T.V.

“We’re better. And we have brains too.” I told Dean.

“Alright. So are we gonna have a team name or what?” Shane asked.

“Huh?” Dean and I asked at the same time.

Shane rolled his eyes and started to type in the word team on the screen. It started to look up that word. The word the appeared on the screen with it’s meaning underneath it.

  Team

  - A group of people with the same purpose.

“Shut Up! I know what a team is!” Dean exclaimed.

Shane proceeded to talk. “Since we are a team we should have a name. Something people will know us by, something that the captain will know us by.”

We all sat there in silence as we tried to figure out a name we could be known as. It was really hard for me. I wasn’t really on the creative side.

“How about the Golden Machines?” Dean said. “Or the three goldentiers”

Oh boy, this was going to be a long discussion.

“How about we figure this out later. We should get some training done.” I stammered.

Shane and Dean both nodded their heads and we headed out to the cliffs. I started to pull my hair back into a hair tie while walking towards the open space in between the cliffs. I turned around and looked at Dean and Shane.

“Alright, who is going to fight me?” I asked.

They looked at each other than Shane pushed Dean towards me.

“Shane you haven’t fought anyone at all! You need some practice!” Dean said.

“No way! I’m the brains of the group. You two fight!” Shane responded.

  I looked over at Dean.

“He does have a point Dean. We need the brains!” I told him.

  Dean started walking towards me.

“Well, if you insist on me kicking your butt then I guess you leave me no choice.” He said.

I smiled and started to run towards him. I like having a good challenge, especially when I’m egged on. As I approached Dean he extended his leg and hit the middle of my stomach. It felt like someone had taken an iron pole and tried to shove it right through the center of my body. It knocked all of the air out of me. I went flying into some prickly bushes. That hit got me so excited!

I jumped out of the bushes and stared at Dean. He looked surprise that I was on my feet. I was not planning to give up this fight, just because I was a girl. I knew I could beat him. I just had to b
elieve I could beat him.

I looked up at the sun and felt the energy run through my body from my head to my toes. The sun light made me happy. It made me feel confident. Dean started to run towards me. He raised his arm getting ready to punch me. I through my hand in front of me and closed my eyes.

  “Gah!.. That hurt!” Dean screamed.

He didn’t even hit me. Did he trip over something? I opened my eyes and looked at my hands. The force field was strong. It was like I was holding an invisible shield to protect me from danger. I didn’t feel a thing when Dean punched me. I looked closer and my hand. It started from the center of my hand and then grew enough to protect me.

“How did you do that?” Shane asked stunned.

He started to walk towards me and take a closer look at my hand.

“I have no idea how I did that.” I replied.

Shane started to touch my hand.

“Do you feel that at all?” He asked.

I tried to focus to feel something, anything, but I couldn’t.

“No. I don’t feel that.” I told him.

I looked over at Dean who was still on the ground holding his fist. He must have really tried to punch me hard. I started to close my hand to make a fist and the shield disappeared. This was something I had to figure out how to control. I walked over to Ryan and put my hand on his shoulder.

  “Are you okay?” I asked.

  “Could be better.” He said.

He reached his hand out for me to grab and I helped him back on his feet.

“Seriously Astra, how did you do that?” Dean asked.

“I really have no idea. I closed my eyes and..” that’s when it hit me. I imagined a shield surrounding me. And my body actually made one.

“I imagined it.” I said looking at Dean.

  “What?” he responded.

I started to think of fire. I looked up and then opened my hands. Flames started to burst out of the pit of my hands. Dean started to look extremely nervous.

  “Think fast” I told him.

I threw a ball of fire at him. I could tell Dean didn’t know what to do. He quickly put his hand out and water started to shoot out of the pit of his hand like a water hose.

“Woah.. did I just do that?” Dean asked.

“Yes! You did.” I told him.

“Guys, do you think the captain knows this?” Shane asked as he walked towards us.

“To be honest, I think he doesn’t know. He has only fought humans. All he needs is his strength to beat them. He needs more than that to beat us.” I said.

We started to walk back to the cave. Shane put his hand up and pointed it towards the cave. Gold started to cover the outside with blue gems surrounding it.

“I think this cave should be called the Golden Cavern” Shane said as he finished decorating the outside of it.

“I love it!” I told him.

Dean shook his head in agreement. Our hideout was now called the Golden Cavern. Something only we knew about.

I really did love this island. There was beauty all around us. I looked up in a tree and saw a hummingbird. It was blue and pink. I looked down at my hand and opened it. A humming bird was there. I watched it flap its wings as it went up to join the other humming bird. I could create beautiful things in the palm of my hands.

We entered the Golden Cavern and sat down on the couch. Shane went over to the key board and typed into the screen. My gold spandex pants showed up and my gold and navy mask did as well. Shane then pulled up a navy blue tank top and boots and put it next to the other items.

“This will be your outfit Astra. Sexy yet daring.” Shane said.

“Sexy? I don’t want to be sexy.” I told him.

“Yeah, that’s my job!” Ryan said jokingly.

I did like the outfit. It looked comfortable. And it all went well together. Shane waited for me to agree with his choice.

“I’ll wear it!” I told him.

Shane smiled and started to type again. This time it brought up Navy blue pants with a gold belt, a black tank top, black boots and a navy blue mask.

  “Whose outfits that?” Dean asked.

  “It’s yours Dean.” Shane replied.

It didn’t look half bad. And Dean wasn’t complaining either. Shane started to type again. I’m sure he was looking up his outfit now. We looked at the screen as a white lab suit pulled up, navy blue tank top, black pants, sneakers and a navy blue mask as well.

“Um, is that your outfit?” I asked.

“You bet it is Astra! I’m the brains therefore I will look like the brains.” He replied.

Dean and I looked at each other and smiled. Yes, Shane was a total nerd but the cute corky kind. And you know this outfit probably will make him look good!

The outfits Shane shot out of a projector onto the wall.

“Alright everyone stand in front of your outfit.” Shane said as he started to walk over to his.

I got up and walked over to the gold pants and navy tank top. All of it was just a picture. I didn’t know what he was doing. I looked over at Dean, he was standing in front of his picture looking just as confused as I was. Then I looked over at Shane. He stared at the picture of his outfit that he had put together and then put his hands towards him. A red scanner came out of his hands and scanned his body. The clothes were then appearing on him.

I looked over at my clothes and then started to do the same thing. I closed my eyes and pictured the clothes on my body. I faced my hands towards my body. I could feel warm heat as my hand scanned my body. When I opened my eyes I was wearing the outfit that was placed in front of me. It fit perfectly. I looked over at Dean and he started to do the same thing.

“Well, I guess that’s how we will get our suits on fast.” Shane said.

“You guess? This is freaking amazing!” Dean responded.

I looked at the time. It was almost eight in the morning. I turned my hands towards my body again and pictured the clothes I was wearing before. My hand scanned my body and I opened my eyes. I was back into my normal clothes.

“Alright I have to go. I told Dillan I would be at the hospital this morning.” I told Shane and Dean as I started to head out.

  “Astra wait!” Shane called out.

I turned around and saw Shane walking over to his keyboard. He picked up wristband and started to walk over to me.

  “Give me your hand.”

I put my arm in front of him and he put the wrist band on my wrist.

“This is our call out to one another. It will beep when one of us is in danger. All you have to do is push this button and it will transfer you to that person’s location.” Shane said.

I was amazed. I started to speak “I didn’t even know that was..”

“Possible? Well, I made it possible. Just keep it on at all times.” Shane interrupted.

It was a navy blue wrist band with a clear circle in the center of it. Shane already had one on his wrist and was about to put the last one on Dean.

“Great! Well I guess I will see you guys later!” I said as I left the cave.

I started to walk down the stairs that lead to the closed gate. I put my hand on the scanner and the gate started to open. I started to walk in the underwater tunnel. I felt like that would be my comfort place. To stare out in the ocean and watch all the fish swim around. There was button on the wall that I pushed. The water started to flush down again and the tunnel opened up. I continued to walk up to the sand. I reached in my back pocket and grabbed the list I had been making. I couldn’t have this anymore. I couldn’t allow people to know my strengths. With every strength there had to be a weakness. Something I wasn’t ready to let anyone know including myself. I tore the paper down the center. Then tore it until the only thing I had in my hands were paper slivers. I dropped my arm to my side and let the paper slivers go. The wind started to blow them away. I watched as they disappeared then continued to walk towards the town.

  The Hospital Visit

  As I entered the t
own I saw the bus start to leave for the city. I started to run towards the bus. The doors started to close and I started to hit the bus to let them know I was coming. The doors started to open again. I stepped up into the bus and looked at the driver. He didn’t seem too happy with me. I felt like he was killing me in his mind. He must hate his job.

“Thank you.” I told him as I started to walk towards an empty seat in the bus.

The drive to the city was long. We stopped at every bus stop to pick people up. All kinds of people were getting on the bus. People dressed in business clothes, casual clothes, and some with rugged clothes. It was amazing how different all these people were. You could tell who a person was by the way they dressed and acted. I didn’t want to talk to anyone so I looked out the window the entire way to the city.

The bus stopped at the hospital and I started to make my way in. There were a couple of nurses all wearing bright colors at the front desk. I walked up to the desk and looked around. There were a lot of papers everywhere. I saw Dillan’s name on one of the sheets.

“Can I help you miss?” A nurse asked.

“I’m here to see Dillan Royce.” I told her.

The nurse stared at me suspiciously then typed on her computer.

“Room 307, down the hall and to your right.” She said as she pointed towards a hallway.

“Thank you.” I told her as I started to walk away.

I felt my stomach fill with butterflies as I got closer to the room. Ahead of me was an opened door on the left side. I looked into the room and saw a woman sitting next to her husband. She was holding his hand so tightly. It made me want to cry. The lady looked up at me and tried to force a smile on her face. I smiled back and started to walk a little faster to Dillan’s room.

I finally reached room 307 and slowly turned the knob and opened the door.

“Here you go. Let’s lay down nice and easy.” A nurse said that was helping him back into his bed.

She looked over and me and smiled.

“You’re Dillan’s girlfriend right?” She asked.

Crap, I told them I was his girlfriend but Dillan didn’t know about any of it. My face started to get red and I couldn’t seem to get the words out of my mouth.
